Fared Shafinury is an internationally acclaimed artist, Persian setârist, composer, vocalist, activist, and educator. Beyond the singer songwriter, he is a disciple of the many prominent masters of Radif, setâr, and âvâz (Lotfi, Shâri, Zolghadr, and Mozafari). Shafinury has dedicated his life to both the preservation and evolution of classical Persian music. His discography, multimedia projects, and live concert performances for the past 20 years all paint a contemporary yet ancient voice, charting a path of experimentation with a deep respect and understanding of tradition. Since the onset of the pandemic, Shafinury has lived a relatively secluded life along the Gulf of Mexico, where he has spent his days writing music and fostering the Radif Retreat Institute: a thriving online school and community of diasporic Persians and Persophile artists, musicians, and poets. He now teaches a wide array of students from across the Iranian global diaspora and beyond with a bilingual and multicultural approach.
